Text: Joshua 23
What makes you, Christian, different than other people? Consider conditions for Israel before you answer.
I. Round 1: Keep the Law
That’s so they wouldn’t be like other people
II. Round 2: Love the Lord
That’s so God would keep driving out other nations
III. Round 3: Don’t break the Covenant
That’s so God’s anger wouldn’t be kindled against them
“For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace.” (Ephesians 2:14-15)
So… what about us?
• What’s the crucial difference between a Christian and someone who isn’t?
• Is God’s love conditional? If so, on what?
• Is God’s anger ever kindled against you? What does that mean about your sin?
• Is God’s favor dependent on lawkeeping? If so, whose?
