"Yes, But..." - standing on the gospel in 'problem' passages

Haven't we all felt it? That incredible rush of wonder at the amazing grace of God in Christ? He loves and died for us. He forgives all our sin. He gives us new life. But many of us have also struggled with how the Christian life is presented to us. Yes, the gospel is amazing. But what about sanctification? What about keeping the law? What about adding good works to our faith? In other words, 'Yes, but...". We hear the good news and yet are drawn back into doubt by the many "buts" that seem to overwhelm the good news.

Because many teachers use the Bible to teach conditions and caveats, we will be spending this weekend looking at specific passages of Scripture that are commonly used to rob us of assurance and joy, and showing how they fit into the incredible message of the gospel. Join us as a collection of pastors and teachers focus in on the "Yes, but" passages to reveal that the Word of God is Jesus Christ alone, "yes and amen."

James 2, 2 Peter 1, 1 John -- we'll tackle actual passages and get encouraged by what the Bible actually points to: our justification, sanctification, and glorification in Christ alone. We'll also have devotionals looking at shorter passages, and join in worship at various points, culminating in receiving communion.

Cost:    $30 for individual; $50 for a couple

(includes light breakfast & lunch on Saturday)

Hey, we know that's a huge break for a couple... and a couple can be any other person with you. So bring a friend and save money! Registration can happen at the door, too, but will be way ($10) more expensive!

Need a place to stay?

We've reserved rooms at a local hotel... follow the link to the right for a screaming deal at a pretty nice place (especially compared to a living room floor).

The deal is $99 for Friday night at the newly built Springhill Suites in Bellingham. Enjoy!

Our Speakers

Marney Fritts

Married to Barry, with two children, Marney is a professor of systematic theology at St. Paul's Lutheran Seminary who is on the pastoral staff with her husband at Zion Lutheran in Kent. She studied under the simultaneously holy and unholy trio of Gerhard Forde, Steve Paulson, and Jim Nestingen. She is grateful to be a part of the ragamuffins at Real Life Grace.

Jim McNeely

Jim is father to 4 boys, husband of Betty, and author of two amazing gospel-centered books: Romance of Grace and Grace in Community. He has been and continues to be a pastor, musician, poet, magician, and sinning ragamuffin. From Bach to computer code, his passion is the wonder of Christ in all things.

Jeff Pierce

Jeff pastors Summit Lake Community Church in Olympia, WA, where he focuses on preaching, teaching, and counseling that connects the good news of God’s grace to the struggles of real life. He and his wife, Jill, live in Tumwater with their three girls, Juliana, Jenna, and Jocelyn. Together the Pierces enjoy exploring the outdoors, traveling, playing sports, and rooting for New England sports teams (ed: we'll pray for them).

Dax Swanson

Dax serves here at Grace Church Bellingham. He and Dani have two girls, Hope and Grace. He's amazed that his family has allowed him to leave medicine and journey through life proclaiming the incredible gospel of Jesus. If you find any irreverence in this page, it is his fault.
